What goes better at Valentines than chocolates! These chocolates are fun and fun to make for a dessert plate and easy to transform into heart shaped marbled chocolate drink dippers for your hot chocolate or coffee and liqueurs.

Supplies
Heart shaped mold
8oz or 226 grams of Semi-sweet Bakers Chocolate
6oz or 170 grams White Chocolate
Note: You can use milk chocolate and or white chocolate chips or or melt your favorite chocolate bars, no need to reinvent the wheel right! I make them primarily for drink dippers (see directions below) so I use the the semi-sweet and white baking chocolate because it’s the perfect combination for coffee and hot chocolate – not to bitter and not too sweet. The white chocolate is softer and richer so reverse the white and semi-sweet if you prefer.
Glaze or Icing
Plastic spoons, stir sticks or skewers ( just for drink dippers)

Chop up the the white and dark chocolate or pour your chocolate chips into two separate microwave-safe bowls; microwave in 15 second intervals, stirring between each interval until melted. Alternately, you could melt it in a double boiler.

Pour bits of both the white and dark chocolate into the mold and swirl around with a tooth pick. For some I put more white with swirls of dark and others dark with swirls of white. The more white chocolate you have the softer or easier it is to bite into and a bit creamier when it melts into hot beverages.

Decorating
You can decorate your chocolates with icing or gel or not at all. The gel tubes are great and you can pick them up at the Dollar Tree for a fraction of the price they cost at the grocery store.

Try cutting differently decorated chocolates in half down the center so you have two halves of each heart and then pair two different halves together or slice them horizontally into thinner hearts so that the marble pattern shows through (also used for drink dippers as well). Swirling in white hearts would be have been an option I didn’t think of until after but there’s always next year!

Any that break or don’t turn out great can be used for crushed chocolate to sprinkle over ice-cream or in hot chocolate 🙂

Drink Dipper
Drink dippers can be chocolate spoons, chocolate covered spoons or chocolate stir sticks; basically, anything that involves dunking chocolate into a hot beverage. If this sounds good to you, try these marbled chocolate hearts.

To make these you can fill the mold 1/3 full (the less you fill it the higher likelihood of it breaking when you pop them out of the mold) or fill the mold full and slice each chocolate heart horizontally into two or three thinner hearts to expose the marbled chocolate and to ensure the piece aren’t too thick because you want to enhance the beverage not overwhelm it (about 1/4″ thick).
Use some melted chocolate to adhere the hearts to plastic skewers, stir stick or the front or back of a plastic spoon. If you make them in advance and keep them in the freezer, take them out 10 to 15 minutes before serving hot drinks
Now just dunk it in to your hot chocolate or coffee and watch it melt away . How sweet is that!
If you don’t want to make the chocolates you can just buy them and make the dippers but if you try the semi-sweet and white combo you’ll be happy you did!

Whether it’s chocolates or drink dippers, these are sure to be a hit with your sweet hearts both young and old this Valentines Day!
Thanks Brad!

Oh so cute! I think I’m going to try to make Valentine pralines next weekend… I’ve recently bought a kitchen thermometer so I’m considering tempering chocolate for awesome result! (well, hopefully – from what I heard tempering chocolate is hard, long and annoying, so I hope it turns out awesome!)
