DIY Upcycled Sweater Projects

These easy, no-sew projects made with an old sweater and free finds from the Reuse Center are a great way to decorate containers that you can use for all sorts of things!

I cut the end of the sleeves off and flipped the cuff over the top rim. If you just cut the length leaving 1/2″ over hang on the bottom it wraps quite nicely around the base. You can zig zag the seam or just glue it down to the bottom. They both sit nice and flat on the table. This took about 5 minutes and two containers were salvaged from the landfill and one sweater is being recycled!

The possibilities for what you can you use these for are endless! I love this pattern and it looks so nice for winter. These work great for craft supplies.

Or how about toiletries or personal care items!

Here is another taller vase I also got for free from the Reuse Center. I used the remaining upper parts of a sleeve. This one has a cut edge on both ends because of course the cuffs have already been used. This time, because there wasn’t a nice wide cuff, I didn’t flip it over the rim; instead, I tucked about 1″inside the sleeve before I pulled it up on the vase so it has a neat seam at the top edge. I left a 1/2″ over hang and it curls nicely around the base with no glue or stitching required!

This tall, heavy, sturdy vase works perfectly for my curling iron and blow dryer and it takes up very little of that valuable space on the bathroom counter and keeps things organized.

Another free find from the Reuse Center, this basket is the perfect size for storing all sorts of things. I cut the bottom of the sweater off and pulled the bottom waistband up and over the the top edge of the basket and glued it down with tacky glue. The bottom 1/2″ over hang wrapped beautifully around the bottom – no glue required.

It makes a great container for hair clips

  3. I made a sweater coat years ago and people loved it. But I’ve had extra sweaters sitting around for a long time not sure what to do with them. Now I know.
