Did you know that by removing the egg white and yolk before decorating your Easter eggs they can last for decades to come! Decorated boiled eggs left long enough will end up with a dense, hard yolk that can rattle around in the shells causing cracks and the odor is awful. The solution is to remove the yolk and egg white before decorating.
Check out my how-to video tutorial below as well as additional links to pysanky attractions, design templates, online tutorials and suppliers.
A few years ago my mother passed on to me a portion of her pysanky collection, each egg lovingly acquired and cared for over the years including a few that my Baba (Ukrainian grandmother) made when I was a child in the 60’s.
I still remember how my she taught me to remove the egg white and yolk without cracking the shell by poking holes in either end and carefully blowing through the top hole and pushing the egg contents carefully through the bottom. If you follow the steps in the video and don’t have success increase the size of the holes by using a tooth pick or small nail. Remember to shake the egg well first to make sure the yolk is broken!
Preserve Your Kids Decorated Eggs!
This beautiful pysanka was decorated by my grandson Logan at school last year. Even if kids are decorating their Easter eggs with food coloring, felt pens, stickers and the like, by removing the egg from the shell, rather than boiling them, you can preserve these treasured gifts for years to come!
